Sustainability

Information About Our Initiatives & Goals

Our Responsibility

Environmental and social considerations are an integral part of our corporate development. In the environmental domain, we focus in particular on energy consumption, greenhouse gas emissions, resource efficiency, and waste prevention.

Efficient use of Resources

We monitor selected energy and resource consumption data and implement improvement measures based on the insights gained.

IMM Photonics’ total calculated greenhouse gas emissions from Scope 1 and Scope 2 amounted to 62 t CO₂e in 2024. Compared with the 2023 baseline year, this represents a reduction of more than 27%. In 2023, these emissions were already more than 45% lower than in 2022.

When further developing our processes, we consider factors such as energy consumption, resource use, waste prevention, and operational environmental impacts. Product longevity is one of the aspects considered within our development processes.

Achieved So Far

  • EcoVadis Bronze Medal 2026 (valid until March 2027) – Assessment of our sustainability management; no certification of our products or services; recertification in the first quarter of 2027
  • Based on our greenhouse gas accounting, Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions across the entire company amounted to 62 t CO₂e in 2024, which was 27% lower than in 2023
  • Electricity from 100% renewable energy sources at the Teisnach production site (effective July 1, 2023)
  • LED lighting installed at both company locations
Replacement of mercury vapor lamps with UV LED technology
  • Ceiling cooling using deep well water at the Unterschleißheim site
  • Outsourced server infrastructure helps reduce cooling requirements
  • On-site drinking water treatment instead of bottled water
  • Continued compliance with RoHS and REACH requirements, as well as established waste separation practices

What We Are Doing Next

  • We are currently exploring additional measures to reduce our reported greenhouse gas emission
  • Reduce paper consumption through digitalization
  • Introduce returnable packaging systems where suitable and feasible within applicable processes
  • Evaluate suppliers based on defined environmental, social, and compliance criteria
  • Take into account agreed requirements and expectations of customers and business partners
  • Reduce product complexity to facilitate maintenance and replacement
  • Participate in Girls’ Day, a career orientation initiative designed to encourage girls to explore technical and scientific professions
  • Participation in Girls’ Day, a career guidance initiative that encourages girls to explore technical and scientific professions: Sustainability Certificate for Participation in “Girls’ Day: Girls’ Future Day”

And Then?

We are preparing for the next EcoVadis assessment in 2027 and continuously working to further develop our sustainability management activities. The digitalization of production processes and the expansion of reusable packaging systems remain key areas of development.
